It’s been a year of remarkable advances in the sports world – from women breaking the mold in soccer, the ring or even incredible feats of sportsmanship by others. There’s no doubt that 2015 will be one to remember.

Sports Illustrated is always looking to give recognition where it’s due and this year is no different. Take a look at the 12 contenders in the running for 2015’s Sportsman Of The Year – to be announced on December 15th. Here are just a few of the nominees below:

Simone Biles

At just 18 years old, Biles is one to watch at next year’s Rio Olympics. 2015 was an especially big year thanks to her third straight all-around title in the U.S. National Championships and in leading her U.S. team to their third consecutive gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships. Talk about small but mighty!

Usain Bolt

When you think of Bolt, your mind automatically goes to thinking of the world’s fastest runner. He now holds the record for most medals in World Championship history.

Steph Curry

Setting the record for most three-pointers in the NBA, he also won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award. Certainly seems worthy of recognition to us.

Thomas Davis

A linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, he also has done a ton of non-profit work that gives away scholarships and puts on a number of events for underprivileged children and their families.

Novak Djokovic

Tennis player, Djokovic won ten titles in 2015 and has a match record of 78-5 including an unbeaten run of 22 matches.

Carli Lloyd

Soccer player Carli Lloyd scored a whopping three goals in only the first 16 minutes in a match again Japan in the Women’s World Cup final. It was a moment that left all our jaws dropping. Not only was it an accomplishment for her, but it was for her team, the country, and women everywhere in sports.

Lionel Messi

If you can remember this Argentinian’s incredible streak during the World Cup in 2014, you’ll remember his incredible athleticism. He has won World Player of The Year four times but is seen as the favorite again to win his fifth recurring title.

Rounda Rousey

Rousey is the undefeated UFC bantamweight champion simply EVERYONE is talking about. As a matter of fact, we are putting our money on this loud and proud athlete.
