If many of you do not know about health coaching – but are passionate about health and wellness – you should certainly hop on the bandwagon.

Over the past year I have been lucky enough to take courses at the Institute Of Integrative Nutrition which covers everything from different ways of eating, living a full and balanced life and even how to create a brand identity and business for yourself. While the course caters to those who are looking to start their own health coaching practice, I have encountered many who have taken the online program to simply better their own health, expand their knowledge, and/or incorporate new research into their existing careers.

To say that it’s life-changing would certainly be an understatement. If you can afford to finance the program, you should. If not, you should definitely seek a health coach consultation online or in person. you will be astounded by how great it can be for your health, overall wellbeing and peace of mind.

So, how exactly have I found health coaching to be beneficial to me (and probably you, too)? These are the top reasons why I think it has changed me for the better:

It can help you achieve personal balance.

First and foremost, if you are finding it hard to get healthier and find balance in your life, this is the program to do it. One of the first things you learn at IIN is that there’s the food on our plate and then there’s the food of our lives. Deep, right?

So often, people looking to get slimmer or achieve vitality are caught up with how many calories are on their plate and how many minutes are logged on the treadmill. You soon find out that this is only secondary to things that really matter and really make an impact on how you look and feel.

You will get asked the tough questions. How satisfied are you really in your relationship? Your job? Do you pay attention to your home environment? Do you make time for self-care? Or, are you always running around like a chicken with its head cut off?

You can try all you might to eat only vegetables and lean proteins, but guess what. You’ll soon bore of that. You may reach a “goal weight” but you might have found your relationships have fallen to the wayside and is that really what a truly healthy life looks like? Health coaching emphasizes the importance of eating for your own body (no two people can be exactly the same!) while living a vivacious life full of love and laughter.

For me personally, this has always been a struggle and now more than ever I feel like I have a handle on it. While I focus on eating well and intuitively 80% of the time, I am not afraid of taking a break and eating pie with my family or drinking wine with my friends. These are ultimately the things that matter most when you look back, not that you had a 24-inch waist.

You can practice your passion.

If you love staying healthy and don’t need help with the aforementioned, there is still plenty to benefit from the program. For example, it gives you the opportunity to grow your knowledge around a subject you put into practice anyways, and once you start helping clients, you’ll feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for being able to share it with others.

You can feel more confidence in giving and getting advice.

I have grown more confident in my knowledge, myself and my abilities. How exactly? After reading countless resources and watching endless health talks, I have identified things that I have a strong foundation in and other areas that might be more “gray”. By getting a clearer image of what I can work on, I have gained a better idea of what I can do to be more well-rounded.

On top of this, the sheer act of practicing helping others has helped me gain confidence in my knowledge and ability to help others.

If you are always seemingly struggling between wanting to help others and not wanting to give out inaccurate information – or even if you have always held back because you don’t want to be that annoying “health nut” – this is a great program for you.

It’s a great networking platform.

A lot of times, the health and fitness journey can become quite isolating. Your friends might turn their nose up at your salads and guffaw at your early bed times. While it certainly helps in differentiating between your true and your fake friends, it’s always great to create a network of other like-minded individuals for both personal and professional reasons.

Becoming a health coach, you are not only presented with successful individuals you can certainly learn from and collaborate with, but also people who are just starting out quite like yourself. This affords making connections with those you can work with and become friends with – an opportunity that seems to come less and less often as you grow older.

It can teach you something new everyday.

Many people seem to lose their desire to learn post-University or professional training, but the great thing about this program is that you feel like you are expanding your knowledge with every module. If you end up becoming a health coach, you will continue to learn – even from merely interacting with new or old clients or trying to keep up with the latest in the field of exercise and nutrition. This is something invaluable – something you will come to learn or have already learned if you are stuck in the doldrums of desk life.

It can help you achieve your dreams.

Finally, a lot of people have become passionate about wellness later on in life. This is especially true now more than ever due to the huge wave of fitness and nutrition trends over the last five or so years. With already set careers, a lot of adults simply don’t have the time or resources to go back to school and start all over to become a registered dietitian or personal trainer.

Health coaching offers a more flexible approach where you can help people just as much while being flexible with both your schedule and your interests. If you want to health coach a specific niche with a focus on the basics of eating for your body type, you can do that. If you would like to focus on health coaching triathletes, you can do that, too! If you want to help women who have struggled with self-esteem, there’s nothing stopping you from doing that either.

With health coaching you can make sure you are focusing your energy on your interests, while helping others. And, you know what they say, if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.
