If you are anything like me, getting in your cardio is one of those “must-do” things that you would reall rather not think about. While you could get away with it during sweater weather, the temps are undeniably warming up and some fat-blasting is definitely on the agenda. Unfortunately, the only tried and true way to do that that won’t cost you thousands at CoolSpa) is to get your heart rate up. However, this is probably the least fun of all the gym activities.
After all, logging in hours on the treadmill or elliptical seems more mindless than anything and I’ve occasionally hopped off not because I didn’t have the endurance but because of its mundane nature. But here’s the thing: cardio doesn’t have to be mindless/boring/mundane/tedious. There are plenty of ways you can get in a cardiovascular workout and it doesn’t always have to include pedaling away on the cross trainer.
Below are 22 ways you can get in your cardio without boring yourself to death.
1. Bike To Work
Alright, this one is my personal favorite in the Spring and Summer. If there was 50+ degree weather year-round, you better believe I’d be pedaling through the full 12 months. Unfortunately, we can blame New York winters for ruining this for me. Anyways, I digress. Biking to work is incredible. Not only does it get your heart rate up, but is a great way to begin and end your day. If you don’t like to work out in the mornings – your bike ride to work will be all you need to boost your mood. If the work day has stressed you out – easing tension by getting in some quick physical activity has been proven to release some of that tension. Also, you will be less likely to give up or “call it a day”, because you have to get from point A to point B. You’re not just gonna stop halfway, are you?
