I have personally been lucky enough to take a yoga class taught by Elena Brower. Although it was about a year and a half ago, to this day I still tell people it was one of the best workout experiences of my life. And while Brower is highly regarded as a yoga instructor, many people don’t know about her other love: GIVEScent.

Yoga Journal caught up with Brower to find out what she carries daily in her yoga bag, and one of the items was GIVEScent Orange fragrance. Once we saw this, we had to dive a little deeper and learn more about GIVEScent, which was started by Brower and her long-time yogi friend Alexandra Lyon Perelman. We headed over to the website and discovered that Brower created her own scent after she was inspired by a Sicilian almond oil blend when she was living in Italy. When she returned to her home base in New York City, she partnered with Perelman to create three fragrances, each very distinctive in smell. It’s important to note that this natural beauty product is free of alcohol, formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates and sulfates — score!

It’s also important to note that GIVEScent supports Every Mother Counts and Women for Women International. Two dollars from every purchase of a GIVEScent bottle goes to Every Mother Counts, a campaign that supports pregnant women around the world to help end preventable deaths caused by childbirth. And 5% of proceeds for the Signature and Green scent goes to Women for Women International, which helps female survivors of war.

Even though we’re a little late on the GIVEScent bandwagon, we’re so happy to learn about this incredible initiative — this is what we call living consciously.  Head over to Yoga Journal to see what else Brower carries in her yoga bag, and be sure to head over to GIVEScent to learn more about the scents.

Have you tried Elena Brower’s GIVEScent?
