Designer fitness apparel is no longer news only for the elite or for the Gwyneth Paltrows of the Universe. There are plenty of lust-worthy offerings coming from websites like Carbon38, big name collaborations with Adidas – including lines by Mary Katrantzou and Stella McCartney – and even a focus on fitness by renowned brands such as Calvin Klein. This new coveted style? “Athleisure”.
The latest designer to link up with a well-known athletic brand? Derek Lam! Teaming up with the trendy Athleta, there is no doubt in our minds that the line will be classic, sharp, and superbly elegant. As a matter of fact, Athleta has already been signaling towards a shift to uber-trendy athletic apparel after their first runway-style show during Fashion Week only last fall. This seems to be just another move to cement their image as the stylish (yet affordable) option for fit fashionistas.
Don’t plan on getting rid of your high performance and/or weatherproof gear for this line, however. Many have described the line as being better fitting for a “yoga-to-brunch” type scenario. However, that is not to say that you can’t get sweaty in this top notch gear – as it is meant to be functional as well as beautiful.
Something else to note and get excited over would also have to be the price point. While Lam’s Ready to Wear line typically ranges from the mid-high hundreds, the Derek Lam tanks at Athleta will start at $58. Tanks are not everything though, as the collaboration will feature everything from leggings, shorts, jackets, sweatshirts, sneakers and even dresses – which we are really excited about. It’s hard to find a good dress that will take us to and from the gym without looking overly done up or down and we expect to see our dreams come true!
The line will be available at the Derek Lam 10 Crosby boutique in Soho, select Athleta stores, and on Athleta’s online store. No need to rush to stores now, though as it will debut in September 2015 (many months away) and will follow into Winter 2015 and Spring 2016. We can hardly wait…
