When it comes to winter skin, you can never be too safe. The combination of cold weather and dry indoor temperatures often means an unsightly combination of parched, flaky skin.

We’ve already mentioned 5 beauty routine updates you need to make as the weather transitions, but if we’re getting specific here, oil and serum will surely become your best friends.

It might scare those who feel they have oily or acne-prone skin to venture into the realm of adding additional oil, but we promise it may actually make your skin better. What often happens when the skin is dried out is that your oil glands start working overtime because they feel they need to overcompensate.

If you make sure your skin is properly hydrated by adding oils to your nightly routine – both for your face and body – your skin will be happier. Maybe even more than before.

Below are a few we certainly think you should include in your beauty routine for clear, even and (perhaps most importantly) flake-free skin. It doesn’t hurt that you’ll be positively glowing either.

1. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Those who have tried this serum have nothing but fantastic things to say about it. This is absolutely your best friend after a day (and/or night) of debauchery. Wash your face and put this on under your night cream to look refreshed the next day and nothing at all like you had a one too many glasses of wine…

2. Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex

If there was a judge and jury pitting the seasons against each other to decide which one was more at blame for making people’s complexions the most dull, winter would be guilty. This Tata Harper Serum completely and totally changes the game. Even after my first time slathering it on, I was shocked and amazed by how much of a glow I had gotten from just a few hours of sleep. Better yet, Tata Harper prides herself on offering only natural and organic ingredients.

3. Sunday Riley Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil

If there was a trendy cult-favorite that’s probably been on just about every beauty blog at least once, this would be it. While we’ve never tried it but judging from ingredients list, we’re convinced it can make miracles happen. What are they? Retinol that increases cell turnover, vitamin C which boosts radiance, and Omega-3,6 & 9, which are all natural antioxidants.

4. Rodin Olio Lusso

Looking to get luxurious? Julia Rodin may cater to the Net-A-Porter shoppers out there, but you know what they say: You get what you pay for. For ultimate hydration and a luminous complexion, Rodin’s Olio Lusso is applied both morning and night.

5. Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil

For a serum that not only grants you with baby soft skin but gives back, Kahina Argan Oil has been tried and true. While argan oil is a trend that’s been around for a while, it doesn’t hurt mentioning it once more. It’s simple and effective – meaning it’s a great option for those who prefer a fuss-free beauty routine.

6. Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster

As one of the first serums I ever tried, this one holds a special place in my heart. I was on the hunt for a vitamin C and this was the first one a Sephora beauty expert recommended to me. As mentioned earlier, vitamin C is a natural radiance booster that not only helps improve complexion but fights UV-induced photodamage – including but not limited to dark spots, wrinkles, etc. I also personally enjoy the orange-y smell but others may not be so keen on it. It all depends on your preferences, of course.

7. NUXE Huile Prodigieuse

Ah, you can’t forget the body, of course. If you do, dry skin often turns into an uncomfortable, dry, scaly and itchy situation. Sorry! Someone had to say it! Luckily, I first came across this oil on one of my many trips to the Pharmacie in Paris – a beauty heaven if you ask me. New Year’s was coming up and I was feeling like I needed a quick fix that would not only keep me moisturized but also give me a glow and shimmer. While baby oil is all well and good to sleep in, this dry oil will give you that luminous summer glow in the daytime. put it on your collarbones and legs for a shimmer that will make everyone’s jaws drop.

8. Caudalie Divine Oil

Another French brand? I promise I’m not playing favorites! If you’re looking for something that absolutely does it all, is low-maintenance and doesn’t make you sparkle like a disco ball, this may be your best bet. Seriously, you can put it anywhere! Your face, your body, your hair. It provides moisture while smelling great.
